Advent Angels started the week with some fab gifts for some equally fab residents.
Today was all about the bake, with donations of delicious homemade chocolate and lemon drizzle cakes, mincepies and fruit cakes from our Great British Bake Off team, which included Vicky Short, Hazel McCulloch, Roxanne Merrett and Jenny Farwell. These heavenly goodies went to five lucky recipients.
Firstly, Val Kinsey, who has cared for and supported her elderly neighbours throughout lockdown in addition to her husband, who is fighting cancer. Nominated by her friends and family for continuing to smile and put others first no matter what life has thrown at her.
Secondly, Vicar James Menzies, who not only supports Portland’s community through his work in the Church, but also as a retained fire officer with Portland Fire Station. He will be sadly missed when he leaves the Island for his new posting in Littlemoor. Thank you James for everything you’ve done here (photo of Mrs Menzies as James wasn’t in when we went to deliver).
Thirdly, Mrs Margaret Stone who was nominated by her friend Kate for all the voluntary work she’s done over the years, fundraising thousands of pounds for different local charities with her bingo evenings, lunches and afternoon teas. Not forgetting the many lifts she has given residents to hospital appointments or the work she has done visiting / checking on local older people who are alone (photo NOT of Margaret as she was also out when we popped round).
Fourthly, the staff at Boots Pharmacy, Easton who have worked hard all year in the most challenging of circumstances in order to ensure local people still have access to essential medications.
Lastly, a fabulous couple who wish to remain anonymous, who were nominated for the time, effort and energy they put into supporting veterans.
We hope they all enjoy their goodies, delivered with love and thanks from our community.
